Leadership Comes in all forms

So its been over a month since my last true update (as my father so kindly pointed out in recent comments) and I've struggled to keep up with day to day ramblings as well as these therapeutic ramblings that tend to keep me sane for brief moments in time.

Also during this time I have spent a great deal of time on the road, both in Canada and in the US. What I have found is that there is a great call for leadership across North America and that whereever I go, people are looking for the same kind of leader.

A leader that inspires us to think bigger than we are. A leader who doesn't know how to say "We can't do that". A leader who listens to all people and then makes the right decisions for most people. A leader who knows that some great leaders can also follow. A leader who knows that one great person is not as good as several great people.

I am currently re-reading From Good To Great and continue to dwell on the idea of successful businesses getting the right people on the bus. The book states that the right people are so important, you don't even have to know where the company is going - get the right peolple on the bus and you can figure it out together.

The same holds true for great leadership. Leaderships inspire other people to get on the bus and together, they will find the right path for their business, their town or their country.

Great leaders are out there. We, as citizens of the world, have a duty to inspire them to get on the bus - our future depends on it!

Until next time (I promise that time will not be so long)

I'm pleased to see that Michael(Mike to his friends, Michael to his mother and me) is payimg attention to his blog a little better....
Leadership is, in my opinion, sorely lacking in North America at the present. President Bush is bound and determined to keep the conflict in Iraq going strong, for whatever hidden reason, and he and his cronies seem totally incapable to making any difference whatsoever toward solving the internal conflict and resulting death and destruction being experienced there on a daily basis. He is also not providing any leadership in the oil crisis, thus keeping the prices at the pumps artificailly inflated.
The relationship between USA and Canada is severly conflicted by his policies, and the present software lumber disputes are causing great concern.
The Canadian government does not seem to have a leader anywhere on the hill, and the minority government situation, along with all the various bush fires like the Gomery inquiry, have created a virtual standstill in the government getting naything done. There is definately no vision for the future, no move forward to make this country a better place in which to live!
Take th efuel crisis, for instance! The other evening a local newscaster (ATV Live At Five) broadcast that there are three oil refineries in the Maritime Provinces, collectively refining enough fuel for all our needs in the Maritimes, plus enough left over for export. There does not appear to be a shortage of crude oil where these refineries are concerned. That should mean stable prices at the pumps! But no! We seem hiotched to the USA to such an extent that, even when the wind blows, the price of gas at the pumps goes up! Strong leadership in Canada would fix that problem, making us less susceptible to USA and World influences. Canada produces enough crude oil to serve all of our country and still have enough to export. This should make our prices lower and more stable. If world crude prices really were responsible for affecting world prices at the pumps, then Venezuela and Iraq would be selling gas at the pumps at much higher prices than $0.05 or $0.17 per gallon, wouldn't they? So it should be with Canada. Perhaos strong leadership would cause us to be using our country's oil production to serve Canada first, and then only export what is remianing. Even then, we should consider a surtax on exports of crude to the USA to offset the one they place on softwood lumber. I'll bet their tune would change!
Leadership? Bah!
